Friday, March 16 - FOUNDERS DAY & Homecoming

8:00 am - 5:00 pm – Bookstore Open
Be sure to stop by the Bookstore to pick up FSC apparel and memorabilia. Alumni receive a 10% discount.

9:30 am – Class of 1962 Welcome Breakfast and Convocation Procession
Members of the 50th Anniversary Class are invited to gather for a continental breakfast.  Following breakfast, class members will don their academic robes and join the formal Founders Day processional in Branscomb Auditorium. Fifty-year class members may register for Homecoming at this event.

11:00 am – Founders Day Convocation and Luncheon with Honorary Chancellor Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, Chairman of the American Red Cross
All alumni are invited to attend Founders Day Convocation. Our Honorary Chancellor is Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, the current Chairman of the American Red Cross, former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Finland (2001-2003), and Founder and CEO of Pace Communications. Ambassador McElveen-Hunter will provide an inspiring address for our students and alumni. This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be recognized at this event.

Calling all grads from the mid-90’s or later, or those who still feel young at heart. Join us at the Red Door Wine Market, located near the FSC campus at the corner of McDonald Street and Tennessee Avenue, to toast the Class of 2002. Visit with friends inside on cozy couches or enjoy a cool evening on the front porch, then stroll back to campus for the Capitol Steps performance.

Last year’s senior class began a new tradition of swimming in the Frank Lloyd Wright Water Dome to celebrate their graduation. Become a part of this new tradition by participating in the first Alumni Water Dome Splash before you enjoy the Shrimp Boil.

The class of 1972 welcomes all surrounding classes for a gathering at the home of Dr. Robert and Diane Baum in honor of their 40th reunion. All who graduated between ’69 and ’75 are encouraged to stop in for a casual get-together to catch up with old friends.

Brothers and sisters unite as our active Greek chapters host a reception for all Greek alumni in the courtyard of the Greek Village.  Visit with active and alumni fraternity and sorority members and tour the chapter houses on the FSC campus.

Dr. Kyle Fedler, FSC Provost, leads a discussion with faculty members and their students about Florida Southern’s transformational curriculum and engaged learning programs, which have earned national recognition for your alma mater.

4:00 p.m. - "Voices from Mariel" Screening
In 1980, Cuban citizens seeking freedom boarded boats at the Port of Mariel to come to the United States. Nearly 125,000 Cuban citizens crowded barely seaworthy boats in search of a better life in America. FSC Associate Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies and Modern Languages Chair Dr. Jose Manuel Garcia was among those who made it.  His award-winning documentary offers a one-of-a-kind look at the lives of Mariel’s Cuban-American 30 years later, as well as a rare glimpse into the current living conditions of those who stayed behind. Dr. Garcia will lead a panel discussion about this film with filmmakers Jesse Larson ’09, Rob Tritton, and Jim Carleton from NFocus.

FSC Trustee Clayton ’80 and Beverly ’79 Hollis host a special donor appreciation reception for all Spivey Society members, thanking all those whose generous support to Florida Southern begins at $1,000.
