Future Students › Getting In › Preparing to Apply
Applying to college is an exciting part of starting the next chapter in your life, but the process can also be a little intimidating. What's expected? What will make you stand out? What are we looking for in a student?
While each student brings a unique perspective to Florida Southern, there are a number of similar characteristics we seek. We look for people who are bright, who aren't afraid to ask questions, and who are well informed. They're at the top of their classes, play sports, volunteer, write poetry, paint, or play in a band. Florida Southern students are achievers but are also creative and know the value of community. If this sounds like you, you'll probably feel right at home here.
Below are some general recommendations for high school students applying to Florida Southern:
Are you a graduate of a regionally accredited high school? Have you taken college prep courses to prepare you for the demand of the college curriculum? Have you received solid grades in challenging courses? We are looking for at least:
* 4 years of English
* 3 years of Math
* 3 years of History/Social Sciences
* 3 years of Natural Sciences
* 2 years of Foreign Languages (Recommended)
Most FSC students have taken advantage of AP, IB, or honor-level courses. The average GPA for students attending Florida Southern College is 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
We also require either the SAT or ACT for applicants. Remember to determine test dates and locations well in advance so you don't miss an application deadline. If you're looking to transfer, or an international student, we can help you through your application process with some useful recommendations too.
If you have any questions or concerns, please ask us. We are happy to help. »
