INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADMISSION

To apply to Florida Southern College as an international student we will need for you to submit the following documents:

  1. Completed, signed application form, along with US $30.00 application fee
  2. Official transcripts of all academic work completed at the secondary school or university level, translated & interpreted in English. For more information on translation of transcripts visit World Education Services.
  3. One letter of recommendation, which must be from an academic source.
  4. SAT or ACT score, or a TOEFL score of 213 on the computerized test (550 on the paper test), (the TOEFL may be waived if you can supply evidence of successful completion of an approved English-as-a-second-language program, or transcripts from at least 1 year of academic work in an English speaking environment).
  5. A Bank Letter (on bank letterhead) demonstrating available funding to you while you are studying in the United States.
  6. A completed Sponsorship Guarantee Form
  7. A photocopy of a current passport, student visa and I-20 if you are already studying in the US.

In addition, all freshmen desiring to participate in our NCAA Division II varsity sports program must submit SAT and/or ACT scores at acceptable levels.  Test scores and core curriculum grades must be reported to the NCAA Clearinghouse.  Transfer students will need to arrange for appropriate release forms and a credit evaluation of their previous work to determine their eligibility for intercollegiate competition.

Student Visas

Along with a letter of admission, immigration officials require a completed
I-20 form from students seeking to obtain an F-1 student visa for study in the US.  Any I-20 issued with our letter of admission clearly lists the sources of funding which will cover the direct costs and incidental expenses of attending Florida Southern College for the academic year.  Most often, the list includes several sources:  the student’s own contribution or that expected from the family, various sponsoring agencies from which the student may have secured assistance (such as churches, corporations or service organizations which might agree to provide limited scholarship aid), and any funding which FSC will provide in the way of scholarships or grants.  In order to list those funds and issue an I-20, we need to have on hand a bank letter (on original bank letterhead) showing available funding and/or a completed sponsorship form.

Our Financial Aid Office will notify students about any scholarship aid for which they qualify, and all such funds will be listed on the I-20 in the appropriate space.  The I-20 is issued once the student has been accepted for admissions and has indicated a commitment to attend by paying the required deposit of US $500. An I-20 form will not be issued until the $500 is paid to Florida Southern College.

International Student Support

We hope you will like what you see and hear about Florida Southern College.  I encourage you to visit the campus, if possible, to gain a better feel for what FSC has to offer as an institute of higher learning.

We know that leaving your home country to study in the US is a big step, and we want to make the transition as easy as we can. We also want you to be happy about your decision to stay at FSC until graduation day. At Florida Southern we have the Cross Cultural Center, which is the international student’s “home away from home”.  We also have Brenda Lewis, the international student advisor, who will be there for you night and day while you are at FSC (literally!) and Amy Salley is the international student admissions counselor who will work you through the admissions process.
