Admissions Requirements and Deadlines

As you begin the Admissions process, we at Florida Southern College would like you to know, you are first and most importantly an individual. With the information you provide, we evaluate your personal qualities, and your academic credentials.  The most successful applicants have provided information that also describes their experiences outside of the classroom.  For example they have provided information demonstrating leadership qualities in a variety of settings such as school, church, and in their community.  They have also established a proven track record of community service

As you work through the admissions process please keep one thing in mind, "creativity counts."  The admissions committee would like to learn the qualities you will bring to the FSC community that can not be revealed by GPA and SAT/ACT scores alone. We would be happy to review any material which would help us to know you better - including samples from your academic portfolio - and we encourage you to expand that dimension of your application!

Have you taken advantage of the high school challenge?

  • Have you graduated from a regionally accredited high school?
  • Have you taken college prep courses to prepare you for the demand of the college curriculum?  Most of our students have taken Honors, Accelerated, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and /or International Baccalaureate courses.
  • Have you received solid grades in the challenging courses?    The average GPA for students attending Florida Southern College is 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.  We are looking for at least:
4 years of English
3 years of Math
3 years of History/Social Sciences
3 years of Natural Sciences
2 years of Foreign Languages (Recommended)

Florida Southern offers generous scholarship and college credit opportunities to students that are gradating from an International Baccalaureate program. Explore those opportunities further online or contact the admissions office at 1-800-274-4131 for additional information.

FRESHMAN ADMISSION -
December 1st - Early Decision
Application Deadline:  March 1st

(Applications will continue to be accepted after the deadline on a space available basis.)

The Admission Committee evaluates freshman applicants on the following criteria:

A recalculated high school GPA is used as a basis for admission, although trends in performance are also considered as part of the evaluation process. Students earning the high school equivalency diploma (GED) can also be considered for admission.

Scores on either the SAT or ACT. Results of these examinations, when evaluated along with an applicant's academic record, provide a reasonably accurate prediction of the candidate's ability to experience success in a FSC classroom. The College expresses no preference for one examination over the other, and encourages students to take both. The school code for the SAT is 5218. The school code for the ACT is 0732. If you want your scores to be sent to us, this code must be placed in the proper location.

Letters of recommendation. Each candidate is expected to submit at least one letter of recommendation, which must be academic. The form for this recommendation is available online or you may simply submit a standard letter or recommendation from an appropriate source.

EARLY ADMISSION: Florida Southern College will consider applications from high school juniors who have demonstrated outstanding ability and achievement and wish to begin their college careers before actually earning the high school diploma. In such cases a student must submit a letter from the high school principal granting Florida Southern College permission to enroll the applicant as a full-time student in lieu of attending high school during the senior year. In addition, the student is strongly encouraged to meet with a member of the Admission staff for a personal interview.
