Blanton Nursing Building

Beverley Brown, Ph. D.
Assistant Professor of Nursing

"My teaching philosophy is first and foremost that all students can learn and contribute to society. Each student learns the fundamental content of the course, utilizing all aspects of learning to include critical thinking, problem solving and writing. Include different teaching styles that will address different learning styles, and prevent boredom. Most importantly all students will be actively engaged in the teaching learning process."

Dr. Brown was born in Jamaica and immigrated to England. She earned her Nursing Diploma as a registered nurse and went back to college for advanced practice nurse degree in the field of midwifery, care of the pregnant woman, delivery and care of babies.

In 1980, due to the shortage of Registered Nurses in America, she was recruited to work at Lakeland Regional Medical Centre.

Dr. Brown worked as a Nurse midwife for 5 years, a medical surgical, neuro, intensive care and emergency department nurse in Intensive care for 20 years, and as a Nurse Manager of a 40 bed medical surgical unit for 5 years. She has also worked as Advanced practiced Nurse practitioner in a pediatric clinic, a family advanced Registered Nurse practitioner, and now her current position as Florida Southern College Director of the Graduate Nursing Program.
