mentor you as you move through your program of study. We want you to
be responsible for your education; we will facilitate your learning
with diverse, active and engaged sessions that promote your
understanding and experience with all of our courses.
How we teach:
Our faculty-student ratio averages 1:15. This intimate class size
permits personal attention to your learning goals as well as
highlights the depth of faculty expertise. We are proud of the
hands-on, interactive environment that we foster in our classroom,
lab, and clinical settings. All of our classrooms are equipped with
the latest teaching technology to enhance your learning. Active
learning is a trademark of our program. Courses allow you to apply
classroom topics in real-world scenarios through various labs,
clinical experiences, research projects, collaborations with other
students and community service projects.
What you will learn:
Physical Education Teacher Certification majors –
You will learn how to become a quality teacher by
developing a comprehensive understanding of the foundations
of education and human movement and its application to
teaching in physical education. Spending a great deal of
time actually teaching, by way of peer teaching and clinical
teaching at various public schools culminating in a semester
long teaching assignment (Internship) within selected
schools in Polk County will prove to enhance your experience
within our program. Also, you will become active within the
field of Physical Education by attending State and National
professional conferences during your tenure at Florida
Southern College. This will keep you abreast of new
innovations and pressing issues within the field of Physical
Education. Upon completion of the program you will be a
licensed Physical Education Teacher for the State of
Florida!
Human Movement and Performance majors –
You will learn the inner workings of the human body and
how it really moves. A solid, scientific, research-based
foundation will give you a keen understanding of what
impacts human movement and performance and how we can
control factors in order to achieve desired results. The
ultimate questions we constantly strive to answer are “How
do we go from good to great?” and “How do we enhance what we
are currently doing?” Also, during your senior year, our
program prepares you to sit for the National Strength and
Conditioning Associations’ Certified Strength and
Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam. Upon passing this exam
and successfully completing your coursework, you will
graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Movement
and Performance as well as hold the CSCS credential!
How you will benefit:
Support and guidance during your educational journey is
constantly available. We will work with you so you can stay on track
to achieve your educational goals while attending Florida

preparation from our faculty will prepare you for your next
steps, regardless of where you are headed. Many of our faculty

educational experience.
