Master of Science in Nursing
Florida Southern College offers two tracks to complete a Nursing Master of Science degree.
Prepare for the varied roles of a
Nurse Educator in
an academic or hospital setting.
The Nurse Educator program
requires the graduate student to complete 37 semester hours, one
semester in a clinical setting, one semester in an education
setting, and a scholarly project. Graduates are prepared for the
Certified Nurse Educator examination offered through the
National League for Nursing.
Prepare for advanced nursing practice role of the
Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The
CNS program requires the graduate student to complete 39 semester hours, 504 clinical practice hours
over 3 semesters, and an independent research project. Graduates are prepared for the national certification examination as a Clinical Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Florida Southern College offers two entry paths to attain the Master’s degree.
-
If you are a licensed Registered Nurse and have a bachelor's degree (nursing or non-nursing),
you may apply for direct admission to the Nursing MS
program. Undergraduate pre-requisite courses are required in
health assessment, research, and statistics. You may be
admitted pending candidacy if you lack one of these courses.
-
If you have an Associate degree in nursing
and know that your ultimate goal is a Master's degree in
nursing, ask about the accelerated AS to MS track. In
this accelerated track, you will complete
all undergraduate nursing courses before being admitted to
candidacy in the graduate degree. 18 undergraduate credits
are waived, saving you about one year to completion of the
Nursing MS.
A Post-Masters Certificate is offered for
(1) Nurse Educator or (2) Clinical Nurse Specialist.
