Music Majors may select any one of the above dates or a personal alternative date. Please contact Mrs. Fredericks at cfredericks@flsouthern.edu or (863) 680-4229 to secure your audition date. Audition times will be arranged once the date is confirmed.

Music majors who need an alternative audition day are welcome to contact the Music Office to make audition arrangements that fit the student's personal schedules. Please provide two (2) dates which work for you and your family via e-mail to cfredericks@flsouthern.edu


Audition Criteria:

Auditions for talent based Music Scholarships are held the semester before the student enrolls at Florida Southern College. Awards are presented to students pursuing the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music Management, and Bachelor of Arts in Music. Live auditions are preferred, although provisions can be made for accepting recorded auditions.

The awarding of Music Scholarships is dependent upon talent, department need, and the student's total financial package.


Audition Requirements:

Woodwind and Brass: Major scales, sight reading and two (2) pieces of contrasting styles (one fast, one slow). Music selections can be all-state audition, solo & ensemble, etc. Non-majors wishing to audition will be provided with audition music for ensemble scholarships.

Percussion: Majors may click on the attached links for audition piece requirements: Marima (A); Marimba (I); SD (A); SD (I); SD (E); SD (EE); Timp (A); Timp (I).

Percussion: Music Management and Non-Music Management majors wishing to audition for ensemble scholarships may click on the attached links for audition piece requirements:Marimba (I); SD (I); SD (E); SD (EE); Timp (I).

Strings: Music Majors must perform two (2) contrasting movements from the standard repertory, scales required by the 11-12 grade all-state auditions, and sight reading. Auditions for ensemble scholarships are one piece or movement from the standard repertory and sight reading.

Voice: Two (2) memorized classical songs of which one (1) must be in Italian, German, or French and one (1) in English. Auditions for ensemble scholarships may include solo pieces from Classical repertoire or Broadway musicals.

Piano: Two (2) memorized compositions representing two (2) the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Modern. Students may be asked to sight-read and demonstrate technical skills through the playing of major scales, two octaves.
