Program Description

What We Emphasize

Instruction revolves around creating a fundamental comprehension of the spoken language leading toward a more thorough knowledge of conversation and composition.

  • As you progress in the curriculum, you'll pursue the study of history and culture within the context of your language of choice.

How We Teach

Classroom course work is intensely focused because English is rarely spoken. This continually enhances your ability both to speak the language and "think" the language.

  • Outside the classroom, our majors gain valuable experience conducting language drills with non-majors, traveling, and participating in a variety of enrichment activities.

How You’ll Benefit

You'll be encouraged to spend at least one semester studying abroad; many of our students combine their language studies with courses in business, education, political science, or history.

  • The dramatic recent changes in Eastern and Western Europe, as well as the formation of the European Common Market, are creating numerous job opportunities for those with a broad background in language, an understanding of different cultures, and global awareness.
