Service Learning in Honduras
As a Service Learning option for we will travel during Fall Break to southern Honduras to be part of an inspiring project. In a joint effort led by the Department of Modern Languages and teamed with the School of Nursing and the School of Education, Florida Southern has adopted Flor Azul village school and students will be part of an ongoing project to help that school. Our learning community is working with that school to provide lessons, teacher development, and necessary school materials.
Students will have a chance to work with Hope for Honduran Children, an organization that works to help the poorest children of this very poor country. This organization helps to provide children with education, nutrition, health care, housing and guidance in a loving, safe environment. During our nine-day stay, Florida Southern students will teach lessons in Flor Azul village and one other school. They will make connections with the children and develop relationships. They will also work with Flor Azul community for teenage boys. This course will provide students with the opportunity of a lifetime to make a difference and to learn first-hand about the importance of sustainable development projects.
