 Malcolm M. Manners

Dr. Manners has taught at FSC since 1981, coming directly from graduate school, where he majored in tropical fruit production and physiology. He founded and manages FSC's rose mosaic heat therapy program, which provides virus-free propagating material to rose nurseries throughout the USA. He has done volunteer consulting work on plant propagation and crop production in Egypt, Armenia, Nigeria, India, and Turkmenistan. He is an avid amateur photographer, a collector of antique rose varieties, and a fanatical fan of FSC baseball. He teaches courses in general horticulture, citrus pest and disease management, tropical fruits, and plant nutrition.

A Native of Lakeland, Florida, Dr. Peterson worked in both nursery production and landscape management roles for his family's nursery contracting business. In a teaching career spanning 30 years and six states, Dr. Peterson has taught twelve different landscape horticulture courses, including subject areas of ornamental landscape plants, design, propagation and management. Dr. Peterson returned to Lakeland and joined the faculty of Florida Southern College after completing 14 years as the Landscape Horticulture Extension Specialist in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University. Currently, Dr. Peterson teaches landscape design, landscape management, weed and water management, ornamental landscape plants and nursery production.
