Renaissance Web Sites

The links included on this page have been submitted by the students of ENG 402: The Sixteenth Century (Spring 2010). They are designed to act as a starting point for explorations of the Web in early modern literature, culture and history. If you have any problems with the links, please contact me.

Luminarium

I believe that this website will become very useful because of the variety of links and information it provides.  Not only is information about 16th century authors available, but also authors from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Medieval era. Along with information about these various authors, this website also has information about the social context in these different eras, and what historically significant events were taking place.  I think this website will be very useful for research and obtaining information about specific pieces of literature.

Luminarium.org contains a short but very helpful summary and background on the Renaissance. It also contains biographies on over two dozen authors from the Renaissance time period. There are sections about Renaissance drama and English Renaissance Writers. Finally, the site includes essays and articles on the Renaissance, as well as other resources and sites about the time period.

Voice of the Shuttle

This is a big database that is still being built so there are some problems with some of the links that don't allow you to follow through. Other than that, it's great. It's got everything from a list of authors and the titles of their works to illustrations of the works. It looks like a good place to start for research, because it has so many different resources and, if it doesn't have a link to it, it at least cites the criticism or work that it is referring to (articles are so much easier to find through our library website when you have a title). Pretty easy to navigate.

Literary Resources: Renaissance

I didn't really check this one out but it also has a list of authors and a lot of resources and links to other sites.
