Connect with a Valuable Communication Degree

The ability to communicate stands as one of the most valuable skills to success. The Communication Department at Florida Southern College effectively prepares students for successfully careers in a wide variety of fields of professional communication.

With majors in Interpersonal, Advertising & Public Relations, and Print, Broadcast & Online, students have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of Communication areas and classes that will engage them on many levels. Students will develop valuable writing and public speaking skills that are necessary to succeed in the industry or advanced education.

Students have the opportunity to work with actual clients in many classes, and Communication Majors are guaranteed an internship in their field of study before graduation. Students can also take advantage of a summer study abroad program to enhance their skills. Interpersonal communication majors can opt to do a senior thesis to prepare for graduate study.

The department faculty collectively has an impressive resume. They are up to date on industry trends in order to effectively prepare students. Many faculty members are also involved in national organizations and groups on campus.

Much of the equipment used within the classroom is industry-standard, allowing students to gain experience with real-world equipment. The Communication Department runs entirely on Mac computers.

Students are also able to get involved and gain valuable experience by working on The Southern (newspaper), The Interlachen (yearbook), or student produced news and sports broadcasts. Students can also become members of active professional organizations such as the Florida Public Relations Association, the American Advertising Federation, and the National Broadcasting Society.
