Course recommendations for Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Studies students

Florida Southern College advises pre-medical students to meet more than the suggested minimum, but to avoid overemphasis in the natural sciences.

Courses that are recommended before taking the MCAT exam include:

Chemistry Courses
Pre-medical freshmen usually begin chemistry in the first semester. Two years of chemistry must be completed before taking the MCAT.
CHE 111/112 College Chemistry I and II
CHE 203/204 Organic Chemistry I and II

Biology Courses
In addition to BIO 110 and BIO 205, the it is strongly recommended that you complete the following courses before taking the MCAT:
BIO 110* Biological Foundations
BIO 205* General Zoology
In addition to BIO 110 and BIO 205, the it is strongly recommended that you complete the following courses before taking the MCAT:
BIO 209 Human Anatomy
BIO 319 Cell Biology
BIO 327 Microbiology
BIO/CHE 350 Biochemistry
BIO 408 Animal Physiology
* Biology courses required for biology majors

Other Science and Math Courses
PHY 211/212 Physics with Calculus I and II
  or
PHY 201/202 Physics without Calculus I and II
