LuAnn Mims
College Archivist
"Students hone their skills by putting theory into practice, so get out there early on in your academic career - engage in a discipline related project, intern, shadow a mentor, and volunteer to build your portfolio."
LuAnn came to Lakeland from Wilmington, NC. She has always been interested in old things - growing up with antiques and collectibles and visiting historic sites and museums. Through school the concepts of preservation began to take lead in an idea of something to do when she grew-up. Knowing that old houses cannot survive without someone doing something about it, she went on to further her education and made a discovery that primary documents are key! Combine that with a love of researching and then telling people about what she learned, pulled her into the field of Public HIstory. Additional education within the discipline of library science added another step to keeping the records safe for future generations. She never tires of finding something new from something old.
Professional positions have included: Project researcher with a state university, contract project work with local history museums, archivist with local history musuems, director of house museum, curator and college archivist for private Catholic school.
